The Institute of Internal Auditors NZ - Education Day 2019

This is a great opportunity to join your peers in learning about new trends and best practice in the internal audit and assurance profession.

This year's theme is "Internal Auditing in 2040".

This full day begins with a thought-provoking insight into the skill sets required from the practitioner of the future. It may not just be technical skills that are required. Robotic Process Automation and Auditing Culture and Soft skills are also covered before lunch. The afternoon session covers some valuable Ethics revision including interactive case study, along with Managing Conflict and Agile. Networking at the end of the day will be also be catered for.

Programme:
Session One: Thought-Leadership Presentation

A critical look at the skills required from the internal audit practitioner to excel in complex and changing environment. This will discuss what senior management and stakeholders require from their audit teams and where the profession may be heading in 2040. This session will provide an opportunity for interactive discussion on how emerging technologies, shifting demands of stakeholders and wider environmental challenges are shaping the profession what we need to do to adapt and continue to add value.

Session Two: Robotic Process Automation

This session will breakdown the stigma and complexities surrounding Robotic Process Automation (RPA), discuss what it is and how we can use it to add value to our organisations. We will explore the business impacts of RPA, how we can benefit from its implementation and how internal audit can manage risks, achieve expected results and continue to innovate. This will provide insight into identifying opportunities to embed automation-enabled control activities, integrate governance risks and controls through the automation programme lifecycle and increase effectiveness and efficiency. See how you and the profession can adapt, add value and provide quick insights to become a trusted advisor.

Session Three: Auditing Culture and Soft Skills

This session will help you to understand and apply strategies to approach auditing an organisation's culture. We will break down the challenge of auditing soft skills and provide methods and tools to deliver insight into an organisation's culture. We will also explore the relevance of culture as a component of the control environment and a risk factor; a model for understanding how culture can be managed your strategy with auditing culture and options for audit methods and tools to use.

Session Four: Ethics - Interactive Learning

Using a real-life case to highlight key points of ethical behaviour (incorporating the revised IPPF standards) you will have a chance to apply your skills against the case study which will take you through the phases experienced by an audit and investigation team.

Session Five: Successfully Managing Challenging Situations

Conflict is natural part of work dynamics. When managed well, it can be a healthy part of the communication of a group. This session teaches you how to direct conflict in a constructive direction.

Session Six: Agile

An iterative approach that helps teams deliver value to their customers faster and with fewer headaches. Instead of betting everything on a "big bang" launch, an agile team delivers work in small, but consumable, increments.

Session Seven: Analytics in Automation

Practical case studies in the use of analytics to identify fraud, improve audit efficiency and effectiveness, and how technology can be used to more effectively perform investigations

Networking:

At the end of the day, relax and enjoy the opportunity to meet and interact with peers and colleagues to share and discuss your challenges and experiences, forge new connections and build a supportive network.

We look forward to seeing you there.
